Meet Nelson Velazquez, a Principal Consultant at ThoughtFocus, who uniquely blends over 20 years of tech expertise with a strong background in improvisational theater. His career, which began at IBM and led him through Raytheon before joining ThoughtFocus, is anything but conventional. “I have a very strong improvisational theater background,” Nelson shares, highlighting how these skills are not just for the stage but are central to his success in the tech world. At ThoughtFocus, Nelson’s ability to listen—his “superpower”—shines through in his roles in consulting, product ownership, and strategy, where his enthusiasm for AI is “downright contagious.”

Nelson’s passion for AI is evident in the initiatives he leads, such as automating background checks to enhance efficiency. Reflecting on one of his proudest moments, he recalls, “We were able to demo the functionality, and it was a major success,” a testament to the trust he helped build with a client. His background in improv also plays a big role in his professional life. “Whether it’s a product demo or a meeting with C-level executives, it’s a bit of a performance,” Nelson explains.
